Cowboy Dressage with Balance, Bend, and Straightness, with Sherrill Shotigian-Ross

In Cowboy Dressage we like our horses to bend well, be flexible, and also exhibit straightness.

Circles will require your horse to develop a great deal of strength in his back and hindquarters— in fact, in his entire body. In order to travel correctly around a turn or circle, your horse must bend his body through his rib cage, rather than simply turn his nose to the inside.

We desire straightness for many reasons, but mainly to ensure bilateral balance in the horse. It takes time to develop the balance and strength necessary to do any of these maneuvers well.

Sherrill will be giving you some tips on riding the Cowboy Dressage court with precision and help you get your Cowboy Dressage dreams headed in the right direction.

March 25 12-4, Youth Horsemanship With Intro To Cowboy Dressage
“A child’s mind is not a container to be filled, but rather a fire to be kindled” – Dorothea Brande. Soft feel and partnership, let’s start incorporating these philosophies into our youth rider’s repertoire! This clinic will not only touch on those elements, but will also show how they can be incorporated into whichever discipline our youth are riding. Elements of Cowboy Dressage, as well as some test riding, will also be introduced. There will be time at the end of the clinic for some horseback games! The group will be kept to a limit of 6 riders, to allow for individualized teaching. Ages 14 and under are welcome to participate. Riders must be independent with the basics of tacking up, handling, and riding walk/trot safely. If you are coming, please comment on what you are bringing. Parent must CALL to register, 541-728-7004. Cost is $50.
