Gathering and Finals Recap and Pictures

2022 proved to be a test of faith and endurance for many. What a year of curve balls and exercises in determination and perseverance.

CDW wants to congratulate everyone who forged through this year’s challenges and continued chasing their horse dreams and showing up to support the discipline they love.

Our Gathering and Finals was well attended and great fun. Lots of new exhibitors and horses.  The Vaquero Buckaroo Clinic presented by Phil Monaghan and Dale Rumens-Partee was excellent. So much great and useful information. These two have a real passion for what they shared.

This year was truly an international event with competitors from Austria and Australia.

What a treat it was to have our own Donna Muniz join us all the way from Texas this year. So many of you have met her “electronically” it was nice to meet her in person. The CDW website and membership are just a few of the many things Donna manages, and has been a part of Cowboy Dressage for 25 years!  She and Bev Meyers are our “wing women” and if you watched MASH our Radar O’Riley.

There is so much to share but perhaps the best way to do so is to tell a story.

Tanja Kraus and Phil Monaghan traveled all the way from Australia. They had horses set up to use for competition. Phil’s worked out and he was able to compete. Tanja’s did not. Disappointed but keeping a positive attitude Tanja attended, volunteered, and supported Phil.  Dana Goodman a fellow exhibitor heard of Tanja’s plight and offered her horse to Tanja to show. What a generous and special gift.  This is Cowboy Dressage and all it represents in one warm and thoughtful gesture.

And then there was Susan Carson who inspired us all to new heights with her freestyle performance. She is destined to be known simply as “Susan” like Cher, Elvis, Frank and Marylin.

Gaited Test News

Thank you Ali Kermeen and Dee Myers for your work on continual development of the CDW Gaited Division.  CDW is updating the partnership rules to allow gaited horses to be included in this division.  Several new gaited tests in the open court are being developed for release in 2023 as well as freestyle just for gaited horses.”  Look for these in early 2023

Lauri Daniels

Welcome and Thank You to our new Gathering and Finals Manager Laurie Daniels. She did a great job and we look forward to her return in 2023.

Show Dates 2023

The CDW Spring Show will be held April 15-16, 2023 at Murieta Equestrian Center. We will be showing in the lower reining arenas and stalling down there too. These are beautiful arenas with great footing. Stalls are the metal.

The CDW Gathering and Finals will be Oct 12-15 2023 and held at Murieta Equestrian Center. The 2023 event will be 3 days with 4 covered arenas as opposed to 2022 that was 4 days and 3 arenas. The 15^th will be awards only.

The Pacific Northwest is offering a three show series with year-end awards in 2023.
