Finals Update

2023’s CDW Gathering and Finals was a very fun show. So well run and many happy horses and riders. This year’s event was smaller in numbers but huge in camaraderie and accomplishments. Just fabulous!!!

The new format for Riding for the Brand was a huge hit and well entered. Very close scores as each test was very well ridden by competitors.

IT IS REALLY HAPPENING

CDWPA Education to go Online in 2024

A new educational program for CDWPA Clinicians and Judges is in its very early stages. This will be an online program offering accredited “boot camps” worldwide. Very exciting and a much needed and a long awaited dream for our discipline. Thank you, Stephen Ladek at Bay Area Equestrian Network, for taking on this project with us. Looking forward to it.

Cowboy Dressage World Presents “Did You Know…”

CDW now offers “Did You Know” educational video clips. All things CDW and all things to help your horsemanship journey. Each post will be on the CDW Facebook Page and on the website at this link: https://cowboydressageworld.com/resources/facebook-feed/

Enjoy, there is some great stuff!

Bay Area Equestrian Network

Many of you met Stehen Ladeck of Bay Area Equestrian Network at this year’s Gathering and Finals. Stephen is a perfect fit for CDW.  If  you have not visited BAEN website please do.

Be Sure to Check Rules and Guidelines for Changes and Updates for 2024

We are doing some house cleaning and catching up. Over time we find errors and things that need to be updated in the Rules and Tests sections. Please check them this spring before show time. Stay tuned.  Click Here for the link to Our CDW Rules and Guidelines.

Show Call Books

Because Call Books at shows have become problematic, we advise all riders to have their call sheets with their callers ahead of their tests. Be prepared as books have become hard to keep in order. Going forward it is the rider’s responsibility to have their caller prepared.  A call book can still be used if available.

Calendar for 2024.

Please be sure to list your events in the CDW Calendar on the CDW website. Click Here for the Calendar!  This is really, really important!

New for 2024

Heritage Presentations

Antique, Vintage and Retro Horse related Tack, Gear and Clothing

A Fabulous and Fun way to share our Western Heritage

  • Vintage is an original over 50 years old.
  • Retro is a “copy” or “Replica” of Antique or Vintage items.
  • Antique is 100+ years old.

This is a non-competition presentation during any CDW show when time allows.  All participants will gather in a designated area.  There will be an MC with a microphone.  Anyone wishing to share their item, it’s history and a story will have 2 min to do so. Exhibits may be on horses or persons or handheld.  Showing in these items is welcome as long as they meet CDW rules for equipment and clothing during presentation. This is an excellent way to bring out and honor cherished collectables and family heirlooms as part of our western heritage.  It is recommended that presenters have a base knowledge of their presentation item. There are tons of information on the internet.  Trading and/or selling is welcome after the presentation at the exhibitor’s discretion.  Not mandatory but up for consideration is a gift fee of any sales to go to the hosting horse show. Fee up to show management.  No awards currently; Just sharing and learning.  Super fun for Freestyles. Perhaps a Heritage Freestyle Division in the future?

No guns or knives or weapons of any kind allowed.  Show is not responsible for loss or damage to any item.

Examples of items but not all:  saddles, parade items, blankets, bits, headstalls, reins, chains, spurs, clothing, hats, chaps, shot guns, gauntlets, hackamores, mecates, holsters, scabbards to name just a few. Family letters or stories. Retro clothing is fabulous and fun. Roy and Dale would love it.

Guest speaker on particular items would be fun. Visalia, Crocket, Bohlin etc.

4th Virtual added to CDW Virtual Series for 2024.

You must show in 3 of the 4 shows to qualify for series-end awards. More New details to follow in updated CDW website.  Click Here for More Information!
