New and Revised “Need to Know” for 2024

Please read thoroughly.

• NEW beginning this show – you may show in 5 classes (riding & ground)
  per day!
• The show is 3 days again this year. Competition days are Thursday,
  October 10th through Saturday, October 12th. Awards will be Sunday the
  13th in the morning. Move in day is Tuesday, October 8th at 2:00 p.m.
• Trifecta must fill at least two teams to hold competition, so please sign up
  in order that we can continue this fun competition.
  This year is “PICK YOUR OWN TEAM.”
• Riding for the Brand will keep the same qualifying tests. The three tests
  for 2024 are: Challenge Walk Walk Test 1,
  Walk Jog Lope Test 3 Open Court and Freestyle Walk Jog Lope.
• The Final Competition for Riding for the Brand will be on Saturday night
  with the Mystery Test and Freestyle rides done on the OPEN COURT!
• TWO Freestyle Competitions. Regular Freestyle classes AND
  Championship Round (top 5 walk jog & top 5 walk jog lope on Friday
  night). Championship Round will receive the new
  John Moe Memorial Freestyle Cups.
• Thursday Evening Barn Party with Progressive Potluck
  and Stall Decorating Contest
• Friday Evening Freestyle Finals & Ice Cream Social
• Saturday Evening Riding for the Brand Finals & Appetizers
• Buckle Award for Best Dressed Patriotic Entry (Friday dress up only)
• Liberty and Horsemanship will be offered again this year

2024 Riding for the Brand Competition

Riding for the Brand was an unwritten code of the Old West but understood by everyone who agreed to live
the cowboy life on the open range — that the cowboy should always “ride for the brand.” In the early days
of the American West, a brand was a ranch’s trademark. It meant protecting the ranch and its livestock,
whatever it took. The brand also represented pride, duty, stewardship, loyalty and dedication.
Perhaps a few lines of a cowboy poem say it best:
“Ridin’ for the brand means to help neighbors and friends; Search for that one last stray,
Even though you’re tired and it’s the end of the day. It’s just not the cowboy way to quit.”
Cowboy Dressage reflects those principles of being moral, just, fair and dedicated.

2024 CDW Team Trifecta Competition

Tests will include:

• Partnership on the Ground Walk Walk Test 1
• Challenge Walk Jog 3
• Open Court Walk Jog 3

We will once again be offering our Team Trifecta Competition. This year we are
allowing you to PICK YOUR OWN TEAM. Pick a name, coordinate outfits, have a
cheer team/fan club, have fun!!!

CDW is very excited about this competition as it has so many elements that we
strive to share with our riders. Sportsmanship, fellow rider support, strategy and
horsemanship and of course a good time!

How it works:
Must have a minimum of 2 teams for competition.

• Each test will be a Team Trifecta Test (these tests do not count as one of the 4 riding tests per day
  nor count towards show end awards)
• Teams will be 3 riders.
• Each rider on each team will ride all three tests (classes held on 10/10, 10/11, 10/12)
• Riders may compete on more than 1 team, with a different horse.
• The scores will be accumulative and the team with the highest collective scores will be the winner.
• Each member of the winning team will receive a Buckle.
• Ties to be broken by Soft Feel scores.
• Fee per rider is $180.
• Sign up individually on Trifecta Entry Form (indicate team members on entry).
• Awards on Saturday evening during Riding for the Brand competition.
